What is the Dörpshus Hürup?

The Dörpshus is a Gaststätte with halls for hire in Hürup, Zur Sporthalle 14, 24975 Hürup, in the Angeln peninsula, Schleswig-Flensburg district, about 12 minutes from Flensburg. The house has two halls — the Kleiner Saal for 30 to 40 and the Großer Saal for 70 to 130 guests —, a pub room and its own kitchen. People celebrate here on any day of the week: weddings, confirmations, birthdays, funeral receptions, club and company celebrations.

What does „Dörpshus“ mean?

Dörpshus is Low German for village house. It means the house where a village comes together — to celebrate, to hold meetings, to end the working day. The name is not an invention for the sign: Low German is still spoken in Angeln today.

Who runs the Dörpshus Hürup?

Accepted Answer

The proprietor and authorised representative is Endrit Miftari. The house is run as a Gaststätte with halls for hire, with its own kitchen and its own staff — it is not a room you rent empty and cater yourself. The full particulars required by § 5 DDG are in the legal notice.

Is the Dörpshus a village community hall?

The house belonged to the municipality of Hürup. When it was sold, an obligation to municipal purposes was written into the contract of sale; it runs until 2036. The Dörpshus therefore remains the village meeting house and is at the same time run as a business. Clubs from Hürup have their own weekday arrangements.

When is the pub room open?

Accepted Answer

The pub room is open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday from 17:00 — without booking and without an occasion. On the other days there is usually a celebration in the house; we then open by arrangement. These hours do not apply to celebrations anyway: those are arranged individually and take place on any day of the week.

Can you stay overnight at the Dörpshus?

No. The Dörpshus is a Gaststätte with halls for hire; there are no guest rooms in the house. Guests from further away usually stay in Flensburg, about 12 minutes away, or in Glücksburg on the fjord, about 20 minutes.

How many guests fit in each room?

Accepted Answer

Kleiner Saal: 30 to 40 guests. Großer Saal: 70 to 130 guests. Gemeinsame Säle, that is both halls opened into one: 100 to 170 guests. How many people really fit also depends on the seating — a long table needs more space per person than rows. Tell us your guest count and we will tell you which hall fits.

Are the Gemeinsame Säle a separate, third room?

No, and this is the point most often misunderstood. The Gemeinsame Säle are the Kleiner Saal and the Großer Saal with the dividing wall opened. A booking of the Gemeinsame Säle therefore occupies both halls — no second celebration can take place in the house that day.

Which hall suits 80 guests?

The Großer Saal. It is laid out for 70 to 130 guests, has exposed roof beams, a stage with a curtain and windows along the whole length of one side; with 80 guests there is still room for a dance floor without having to clear the tables away. For smaller gatherings we use the Kleiner Saal with 30 to 40 guests, for larger parties both halls together with 100 to 170 guests.

Question 10

There are 50 to 60 of us — which hall?

There is a gap between the two ranges: the Kleiner Saal is laid out for 30 to 40 guests, the Großer Saal for 70 to 130 guests. Those are guide figures for full seating, not lower limits — a party of 50 or 60 we put in the Großer Saal and lay it out for your number. Tell us how many you are and how you would like to sit, and we will tell you which hall we will use.

What seating layouts are possible?

A long table, round tables, a U-shape or rows — we set out whatever the occasion needs. Eight to ten guests sit at a round table, the U-shape carries up to about 60 people, rows need the least space, roughly one square metre per person. For a dance floor we move tables aside and put them back afterwards; for rearranging in the middle of a celebration allow half an hour. Tell us when you enquire who should sit with whom.

Is there an outdoor area?

Yes, a covered terrace with grass and a hedge behind it. You can have coffee there or hold a drinks reception without a shower ending the afternoon. You can see it laid up in the gallery.

How are the tables laid?

Laying up in white is included in the venue hire; beyond that we will lay up in a colour scheme of your choice. Flowers we arrange by agreement. Six table settings that really happened here are shown as photographs on the home page and in the gallery.

What does a celebration at the Dörpshus cost?

Accepted Answer

The house does not publish a price list. What a celebration costs depends on the day, the number of guests, the food and the length — a figure without those details would be guesswork. Tell us the date and the number of people and you will get a written offer on one page. The final clean is included; kitchen and drinks are billed on what you use.

Is an enquiry already a booking?

Accepted Answer

No. An enquiry through this website is without obligation and is not a booking; it is an invitation to us to make you an offer. A contract only comes about when we confirm the booking in writing — by letter or by e-mail. Until then you are committed to nothing.

Question 16

How do I find out whether the date I want is free?

Accepted Answer

The home page has an availability calendar for the next three months. For each day it shows one of three states: both halls free, one hall still free, fully booked. The middle one is what matters for a smaller celebration — on those days one of the two halls is still to be had while the other is in use. The display reflects the position as known to us and is not a guarantee of availability; a date only becomes binding with our written confirmation. How far in advance should you book?

It depends very much on the day. Confirmation Sundays in April and May and wedding Saturdays from May to September are often taken a year ahead, Christmas parties three to six months. For most birthdays, christenings and family celebrations during the week or on a Sunday, four to eight weeks is enough; for a funeral reception one to two days.

Can you view the hall beforehand?

Yes, and it makes sense: a room looks different in a photograph from how it feels standing in it. Call or write to us and we will arrange a time that suits you — evenings too. Do bring your guest count, then we can tell you straight away which hall fits.

What is included in the venue hire?

Accepted Answer

The whole day, plus tables and chairs, laying up in white and the final clean. Setting up and clearing away the day before we arrange by agreement. Not included are food and drink — those are billed on what you use — nor flowers and special decoration.

Question 20

By when do I have to give the final guest count?

Accepted Answer

The binding number of people is the basis of the bill. The deadline that applies to your celebration is in your offer and in the written confirmation; tell us of changes as early as you can, because the number you give is what is charged, even if fewer guests come on the day. For a funeral reception we do it differently: there we charge by the actual number of people on the day itself.

Question 21

What happens if we have to cancel?

Tell us as early as you can, ideally by telephone. The closer to the date a cancellation comes, the more remains payable; the scale that applies to your celebration is in your offer and in the written confirmation. There is no right of withdrawal as with an online purchase when booking a date (§ 312 g (2) no. 9 BGB). We are happy to go through the position with you again on the phone.

Does the house cook itself?

Yes. The Dörpshus has its own kitchen; the food comes from the house and not from a delivery service. A coffee table, a cold platter, a buffet and a set menu are all possible. What comes to the table we put together with you, according to the number of guests and how the day runs.

Where do I find the menu?

Accepted Answer

The current menu is on the menu page as a PDF. It does not apply to a celebration: for that we put the food together with you — a coffee table, a cold platter, a buffet or a set menu, and in the Grünkohl season from November to February also Grünkohl — and write it into the offer. We do not publish prices; what is on this week in the pub room we will tell you on the telephone on +49 1517 4112477.

Can you get vegetarian, vegan or allergy-friendly dishes?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Tell us when you enquire how many guests eat vegetarian or vegan and what intolerances there are. Then it is planned for and written into the offer — afterwards, on the day itself, it is difficult for any kitchen.

May you bring your own cake?

Accepted Answer

Yes, you may bring the wedding or birthday cake yourself. Tell us beforehand so that we can keep space to chill it and the right plates ready, and plan the cutting into the running order. Whether we charge a plate fee for it we will tell you when you enquire and set down in the offer.

May you bring your own drinks?

Accepted Answer

Please raise it with us beforehand — we settle that before the booking and set it down in the offer, not on the night. As a rule we provide the drinks and charge them by actual consumption.

Can you bring your own caterer?

Accepted Answer

Please ask us. The house has its own kitchen and cooks itself; whether and how an outside caterer can be involved depends on the occasion and on the kitchen arrangements. We will tell you before the booking, so that it does not come between us later.

Zur Sporthalle 14, 24975 Hürup. That is Hürup in the Angeln peninsula, Schleswig-Flensburg district, Schleswig-Holstein. By car it is von Flensburg rund 12, von Glücksburg rund 20, von Husby rund 8 und von Tarp rund 15 minutes. We are in the middle of the village, right next to the sports hall: coming from the B199, drive into Hürup and follow the signs to the Sporthalle.

Is the Dörpshus step-free?

Access to the house and to both halls is step-free, and there is an accessible WC. The parking is right by the house, and the way from there to the door is short and level. Tell us when you enquire if guests are coming with a walking frame or a wheelchair — then we plan the places and the gaps between the tables accordingly.

What about parking?

Accepted Answer

Parking is free and right by the house, on the area we share with the sports hall next door. Nobody needs a parking fee or a parking disc. If a large party is arriving by coach, please tell us beforehand.

How soon can a funeral reception take place?

Accepted Answer

Often within two days, sometimes the same day — if the room is free, a phone call is enough. You do not have to fill in a form: you tell us the number of people and the time, we lay up simply and prepare a quiet room separate from the pub. The bill is by the actual number of people on the day itself.

Can you hold a wedding at the Dörpshus?

Yes, and for the whole day: a drinks reception, the coffee table, a buffet or set menu, speeches from the stage, a dance floor and midnight soup. For that we use the Großer Saal (70 to 130 guests) or both halls together (100 to 170 guests). Where you marry, at the register office or in church, you arrange with the registrar or the parish; we set the running order around it.

Is the house suitable for a confirmation or a christening?

Accepted Answer

Yes. For a christening among close family the Kleiner Saal with 30 to 40 guests fits; for a confirmation with the wider family usually the Großer Saal. Both run similarly here: coffee and cake in the afternoon, then a roast or a buffet. Confirmation Sundays in April and May are often taken a year ahead, because all the families of a parish celebrate on the same day.

Can a club or a company meet here?

Yes — an annual general meeting, a training day, a staff party. We set out rows, a U-shape or a long table, according to what the occasion needs; a projector, a screen and a sound system with a microphone are in the house, and the stage in the Großer Saal has a curtain. Clubs from Hürup have their own weekday arrangements.

When should you enquire about a Christmas party?

Ideally by the end of September if you want a Friday or Saturday in December — those are usually taken by October. During the week it is often still possible in November. The season runs from November into January, and a date in January has the advantage that everyone has time.

How late may music play in the evening?

Accepted Answer

How long you may celebrate and how loud the music may be is governed by the municipality’s closing time and by noise protection rules — that is not something a house decides for itself. We will tell you the current position when you enquire and set it down in the confirmation. You may bring a DJ or a band.
